Search for missing fisherman in Cagayan during Typhoon Maring still ongoing

Cagayan, Philippines – A 37-year-old fisherman who went missing during the onslaught of Typhoon ‘Maring’ in the province is still nowhere to be found, a week since the typhoon hit Northern Luzon.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office identified the missing person as a certain Jerry Collado who is from Sta. Ana. It was reported that he went fishing with his father, Rodrigo, 59, on October 10 at sea, but they never returned home.

The following day at 8:10 PM, Typhoon Maring made landfall in Fuga Island in Cagayan, though its strength was already felt in the province hours prior to the landfall. The typhoon also brought heavy rains in Cagayan, flooding many areas and forcing individuals to evacuate their homes before it left the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 11:00 AM on October 12.

Two days after Maring left Cagayan, the authorities received a report that the body of Rodrigo was found floating in the sea in Baraibi Point in Barangay Patunungan.

Responders proceeded to the area and found the lifeless body of Rodrigo. However, one week after the incident, Jerry is still being searched by the rescuers.

Meantime, there are 3 casualties of typhoon Maring in Cagayan. The other two were a security guard in Claveria and a woman in Iguig who were both drowned during the height of the typhoon.
