Luna, Isabela – A six-year-old boy who had just learned how to ride a bicycle died after being hit by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Luna, Isabela, on Wednesday night, February 25.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Angelo,” was a resident of the area.

Information obtained by a local media outlet from the Luna Police Station indicated that the tragic accident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. The child was riding his bicycle along a road in Barangay Mambabanga when an SUV driven by a 73-year-old man struck him, resulting in his immediate death.

A witness told police that Angelo had been happily cycling before the incident, proud that he could finally balance and ride on his own.

Further reports revealed that Angelo and his siblings were no longer under the care of their parents. Their father had succumbed to illness, while their mother was reportedly living with another partner.

An individual identified as Alvin, who had been caring for the boy, said he treated Angelo like his own son. According to 98.5 i-FM Cauayan, Alvin described the child as lively, smart, and sweet, and expressed deep devastation over his loss.

Meanwhile, the 73-year-old driver is currently under police custody as authorities continue their investigation.

Police confirmed that a meeting between the victim’s family and the driver will be arranged as part of the ongoing proceedings.

Luna Municipal Police Station (MPS) Chief Major Jonathan Ramos reminded motorists to remain vigilant while on the road to prevent similar incidents.

Ramos also urged parents to properly supervise their children, especially when going out at night.
