Tabuk City, Kalinga−An ordinance penalizing individuals using fake vaccination cards as entry passes to get in the city is set to be crafted.

Vice Mayor Bernard Glenn Dao-as and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod referred the request for the crafting of said ordinance, providing penalties for tampered or forged authentic vaccination cards to the Committee on Health during their regular session held on July 29.

Said move was prompted through a request dated July 26 transmitted from the Local Chief Executive based on an advisory from the Department of Interior and Local Government concerning the authenticity of vaccination cards carried by individuals upon entry thru border of Local Government Units (LGUs).

Based on Resolution 124-B of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), LGUs may opt to require fully vaccinated individuals to present their vaccination cards prior to entry in their borders instead of a negative RT-PCR test result, the DILG advisory provides.

With this, there is a need for border checkpoint to ensure that fake cards are not mistaken for authentic ones as well as guarantee that these individuals are indeed protected from and are not carriers of COVID-19.

It also states that the city government shall then devise a tamper-proof system of authentication for all vaccination cards issued by them.

Vaccination cards carried by individuals who opted to get vaccinated through their employers in the private sector may also be authenticated.

Added to that, an initiated information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign drives to inform the constituents about authentic vaccination cards and the LGUs system of authentication.

Meanwhile, Baguio City Government warned the public against persons offering fake COVID-19 vaccination cards or passports to tourists so that they could be allowed entry to the City of Pines.
