Tabuk City, Kalinga― The crafting of a resolution to conduct an investigation has been decided, following the issues of a sudden increase of electric bills flooding the social media with complaints from the affected member-consumers.

Presided by Vice Mayor Bernard Glenn Dao-as, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod moved to pass a resolution to address the concerns on bill cost hikes in the city during their regular session held on July 22.

It can be recalled that on July, 01, a representative from Kalinga-Apayao Electric Cooperative (KAELCO) clarified that there is a significant increase of about 20% in the consumption of electricity for the month of June compared to the previous months.

Also, the forced outage of the four major power plants of the Luzon grid caused a reduced energy supply to the affected areas.

KAELCO said that these major reasons have consequently elevated the supply and demand because of price hikes in the cost of electricity.

As a result, the august body decided to ask for the presence of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), KAELCO Chairman of the Board of Directors, and a representative from the consumers in the next session to further understand and seeks clarification on the issues regarding the increase in electricity bills.

However, invited concerned offices and agencies have not attended the scheduled session on July 22 for them to tackle the matter.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod then moved to pass a resolution for the concerned agencies to look into all transactions of the cooperative in order to provide clarifications and explanations to the member-consumers behind the price hike in the cost of electricity in the city.
