TUBA, Benguet – Motorists traveling to and from Baguio City can now use both lanes of a previously damaged section of the Marcos Highway in Barangay Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet, following the completion of its ₱15.04-million repair and rehabilitation project.

The reopening on Friday, October 30, ends more than a year of traffic disruption caused by a major road slip that forced authorities to implement a one-way traffic scheme along the affected section.

The road collapse occurred in September 2025 during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Nando, damaging a portion of the highway and causing heavy traffic congestion along one of the main access roads to Baguio City.

On May 8, 2026, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon personally inspected the site and directed the immediate completion of the rehabilitation works.

Following round-the-clock repair operations, both lanes of the affected road section were reopened to all types of vehicles at 6 p.m. on October 30, ahead of the expected influx of travelers during the Undas holiday.

Newly appointed DPWH Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez inspected the repaired section on Saturday, accompanied by DPWH-Cordillera Regional Director Editha Babaran and Officer-in-Charge of the DPWH Benguet First District Engineering Office, Engr. Teofilo Ramirez Jr.

During the inspection, Lopez assessed the completed works to ensure the road's structural integrity and safety.

He also reiterated President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to fast-track infrastructure repairs to provide safe, convenient, and orderly travel for commuters, motorists, and tourists during the long weekend.

The restoration of two-way traffic is expected to ease congestion for motorists traveling to and from Baguio City and other northern provinces.

It is also expected to facilitate the faster delivery of essential goods to major markets, helping sustain commercial activities and tourism in the area.

Lopez said he will also inspect other infrastructure projects requiring immediate rehabilitation and timely completion, including the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road along the Beckel-Lamut Junction in La Trinidad, Benguet.

The DPWH chief further assured that infrastructure commitments initiated under Dizon's leadership will be sustained.
