Tabuk City, Kalinga- The City advisory council in Tabuk met up this November 27, 2020 with the leaders and ‘Imams’ of the Muslim community to forge a stronger relationship to facilitate faster and more efficient response to issues as well as crimes and in keeping the peace and order in the city.

During the meeting, City Advisory Council Chairperson Sandra Uyam explained that there is a need for the Muslim Community and the police force to have a closer relationship and think of proactive measures in solving problems with regard to peace and order, crimes, and even road accidents.

One of the crimes that police asked the Muslim community to help is the selling of stolen good like mobile phones and laptop computers. It has been observed that thieves and robbers usually sell what they took from others to Muslim vendors.

Uyam suggested the forging of a stronger relationship could be done similarly as the peace pact in which a memorandum of agreement is made by both parties and sign them to demonstrate and prove the commitment of both.

“Ilagay natin na bago pa man man mangyari ay meron na tayong sistema para alam na natin kung ano yung role ng bawat isa sa atin, hindi na lalala yung sitwasyon, solve kaagad…parang finoforge natin dito ay parang peace pact na rin , peace pact natin sa kapulisan or sa LGU kasi and kapulisan, gumagalaw sila bilang implementing arm ng Local Government Unit ng Tabuk,” Uyam said.

Muslim community leader Casan Calil for his part said that they will continue to support whatever the endeavour of the police force is as he and the Muslim community have been supportive of the police for a long time.

Casan recalled that in 2017 when he became a member of the advisory council, he began several actions to help with the peace and order involving the help of the Muslim brethren. He likewise added that when he became a barangay kagawad, he made sure that the Muslim community contributed to the peace and order.

In the meeting it was agreed that the Muslim vendors shall continue to report stolen items sold to them. The Muslim leaders further said they shall also inform to the police the entry of Muslim brethren who may come and visit the City.

Present during the meeting were CLGU Representaive Henry Gupaal, PLT Ryan Antonio, PLT John Macli-ing, Imam Aleem Abdul Samad, Imam Mustapha Camad and Brent Martinez.
