Tabuk City, Kalinga – Tabuk City Councilor Jayferson Bon-as, in his effort to recognize the work of Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) personnel and barangay tanods in maintaining the city’s security, said he will further study measures that would provide honoraria and incentives for these workers.

On October 29, Bon-as presented before the Committee on Peace and Order of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tabuk City his proposed ordinance seeking to grant a monthly hazard pay of ₱1,000 to POSO personnel and ₱350 to barangay tanods.

The city legislator explained that both POSO personnel and barangay tanods play vital roles in maintaining peace and order in the city and are exposed to risks during the implementation of local ordinances related to crime prevention, traffic enforcement, and emergency response.

“This ordinance seeks to provide them with additional compensation in recognition of their active participation and constructive role in maintaining peace and order in our city. It will also serve as an incentive for the more faithful performance and discharge of their duties and functions,” Bon-as explained.

During the discussion, however, concerns and clarifications were raised regarding its implementation and funding. It was also pointed out that there is currently no legal basis for granting hazard pay to barangay tanods and POSO personnel. Meanwhile, the Committee on Peace and Order assured that the concerns of the POSO and barangay tanods will be forwarded to the executive department for further evaluation.

“Nakakalungkot man since wala pang legal basis, we will further study and draft another ordinance granting honoraria or incentives to the POSO and barangay tanods. We’d like to help dagitoy POSO and tanods tayo since makitakita tayo met ti rigat da,” Bon-as expressed.
