Tabuk City, Kalinga – Rabies awareness month culminates in the city with free veterinary services for dogs and cats held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral today, March 30.

Among the services provided, through the City Veterinary Office (CVO) with assistance from the Provincial Veterinary Office, include anti rabies vaccination, spay or castration, deworming and vitamin administration, mange treatment, and veterinary consultation.

Assistant City Veterinarian Dr. Carmen Wanas explained that other services may be availed regularly at the CVO such as the anti rabies vaccination but for spay and castration, it is done occasionally depending on the budget.

“For spay and neuter, once nga icon-conduct tayo lang daytoy, occasional kasi depende gamin iti budget tayo,” she said.

Also, she reminds those who availed spay and castration service to mind the post care of their pets considering that they have gone a major surgery.

“Masapul matanggad dagitoy kasi haan lang a basta basta, karkaru dagitoy na-spay ta that is a major surgery for the animal ta maikkat diay reproductive organ da. So dakkel a sugat dayta ... masapul matanggad, maaywanan a nalaing ken i-maintain tayo diay 7 days antibiotic treatment,” she said.

For those who had their pets vaccinated with anti-rabies, they were also reminded not to bathe their dogs for at least a week, expose to heat and extensive walking since the vaccine is already stressful.

The anti rabies shot is effective for a year.
