Tabuk City SP approves MOA for better, sustainable water quality

Tabuk City, Kalinga─A collaborative research on Upland River and Spring Water Assessment and Management will be conducted to further improve water quality in the communities of the city.


Held on July 01, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the proposed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the City government and University of the Cordilleras (UC) for implementing said project in the city.


University of the Cordilleras is a private university with principal office address at Gov. Pack Road, Baguio City.


The institution in collaboration with various universities, line agencies, local government units, and the private sector was granted institutional support under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Niche Centers in the Regions for Research and Development (NICER) facility.

NICER Program capacitates Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the regions to make significant improvements in regional research by integrating its development needs with the existing R&D capabilities and resources.

It is to establish Research and Development Center on Mountain Engineering and conduct collaborative researches, such as Slope Stability Analysis and Engineering Intervention for Rice Terraces and Road Infrastructure in terrain areas; improving the livelihood of MSMEs through cable-supported water and transport infrastructure; and development of artificial groundwater recharge facility for drought and flood mitigation.


UC will lead the implementation of Project 3 entitled “Upland River and Spring Water Assessment and Management,” as the Chico River Basin that passes Bontoc, Mountain Province and flows to Kalinga province for its area of implementation.


Therefore, the project shall benefit the local communities through sustainable mountain management, as well as the lowland communities through the project interventions that will result in better water quality and sustainable discharge from springs.


Added to that, it shall also help the local government units through utilization of policy recommendations and developments.
