Tanudan, Kalinga – It started out as a simple gesture of responding to a health emergency and helping communities in need, but Tanudan’s initiative led to the outpouring of donations that resulted in a 5-day operation for Sacpil, Conner, and its neighboring area in Pinukpuk.

On May 20, the Tanudan Local Government Unit, headed by Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag, sent jugs of water and biscuits to Sacpil, Conner, and Caloan, Pinukpuk whose residents experienced ill effects of the waterborne disease outbreak.

In a local report, it was mentioned that there were about 5 casualties due to the outbreak and a record of 122 total cases.

Executive Assistant to Mayor Dagadag and Designate Information Officer, John Ryan Awingan, shared that the operation caught the attention of more donors in Kalinga who gave their donations through the Tanudan LGU. This resulted in a five-day delivery of 300 jugs of water and biscuits to the affected areas, including the Pinukpuk District Hospital.

Dagadag, in a statement, thanked the donors for heeding the call for immediate response to the acute diarrhea-stricken communities in Apayao and Kalinga. He also expressed his gratitude to the personnel of Tanudan LGU for delivering the aid to the communities.

“Nu adda iti agkasapulan nga komunidad, uray pay man outside iti ili tayo, tumulong ta karkaru nu biyag iti umili iti nakasalalay. Pagyamanak dagiti donors tayo – haan lang nga taga Tanudan, adda da pay taga Tabuk ken daduma nga ili, ta nakita da diay inpan tayo nga danum ken biscuit ket nagkontak da kadatayo nga kayat da met iti tumulong. Isu nga nagbalin nga five days daytoy panagtulod tayo iti tulong,” he said.

The mayor, who is known for his quick action during emergencies like giving immediate relief during the pandemic and responding to the massive flooding in Cagayan and Isabela, underscored that helping others had its domino effect.

Dagadag encouraged the public not to hesitate in lending a hand to people in need, as small actions could inspire others to follow and help others.
