Teen held hostage in Abra released after hours of negotiations


Abra, Philippines – A 19-year-old female taken hostage by a farmer in Lagangilang, Abra on Tuesday, February 21, is safe after the police secured her release.


When a concerned citizen called the police station, reporting a hostage-taking incident at Sitio Bagong Bario, Nagtupacan village of Lagangilang, the police immediately responded, says Lagangilang police.


There, they found the suspect Errol Bolanos, 44, holding a gun against the teen victim.

At first, the hostage-taker was uncontrollable, even firing at the police. However, after hours of negotiations, he was subdued and the victim was freed at around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22.


Following the suspect’s arrest, police seized one homemade caliber .22 and 20 live ammunition from him. In addition, authorities recovered three empty shells at said place.


The suspect was brought to Lagangilang Police Station along with the seized items for proper action, while the victim was taken to Abra Provincial Hospital in Bangued along with an injured cop.


Charges for Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention (Violation of Art 267 RPC), Violation of 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act are now filed against him, the Public Information Office of Cordillera regional police unit disclosed.
