Teens attempting to rob Baguio City cab driver arrested

Baguio City, Philippines – Two teens are now facing attempted robbery with violence charges following their failed attempt to rob a cab driver at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, said Baguio City police.


The two posed as passengers and boarded the taxi along Marcos Highway, Baguio City. They said their destination was at the night market in Harrison Road, the Baguio City Police Office-Abanao narrated in a press release.


Upon reaching Gate 5 of the University of the Cordilleras, the teens declared hold-up, while pointing a knife at the neck of the 33-year-old driver, a resident of Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet.

In an uploaded video, the victim can be heard begging for the suspects to let him go for the sake of his family.


“Madi met a boss, bagimun diay kwartak. Sige, bagi yu diay kwartakun, uray amin, amin nga kwartak, uray ibatik amin. Ibati dak metten a boss, anya kayo metten. Bagi yu metten a aminen boss ta adda pamilyak,” he pleaded.


The victim then grabbed the suspect’s hand holding the knife and removed it from his neck then immediately went out from his taxi and ran towards Burnham Park, Baguio City.


Once there, he reported the incident to the Tourist Police Unit of BCPO. The unit’s personnel rushed to conduct a follow-up operation which eventually led to the arrest of the suspects at Burnham Park, Baguio City.


One of the suspects is 17 years old, while the other is just two years older. The weapon used in the attempted robbery was recovered from the two.


The victim was brought to the hospital due to the lacerations he sustained on his neck and right wrist but was already discharged.


The minor suspect, the city police said, was turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development, Bahay Pag-Asa, while the other was turned over to Baguio City Jail.


The said case was already filed before the City Prosecutors Office.
