Isabela, Philippines – Three teen friends who had gone out for a picnic did not make it to the hospital alive after a drowning incident on Tuesday, June 10.

The three victims – all aged 19 years old and residents of Cabagan, Isabela, decided to go for a picnic and swim at the Ayyu River when the tragedy happened.

Police investigation, as reported by a local media, showed that it was past 2:00 p.m. when police authorities were alerted of a body of a young man floating in the river in Sisim Alto, Tumauini. The victim was described to be lifeless when the authorities arrived.

Rescue teams and volunteers proceeded to search the waters and recovered the bodies of the other two 19-year-old victims. The drowning victims were brought to the hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The police relayed that the place where the tragedy happened is not open for any swimming activity due to its dangerous water currents. They further informed there is a plan to put sand and rocks on the portion of the river where the drowning happened to make it shallow.
