Tabuk City, Kalinga – Good governance should not be performed only during evaluation periods but must be practiced daily and felt by the people through consistent and effective public service, according to Barangay Lacnog Captain Joel L. Alunday.

Alunday made the statement following the barangay’s 2026 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) validation conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday, April 28.

As stated on the DILG website, the validation aims to assess whether Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) meet standards in key areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, peace and order, social protection, and environmental management.

Barangay officials, led by Alunday, assisted the validation team to ensure a smooth and orderly evaluation process.

During the activity, validators reviewed documents and assessed performance across the key areas to determine whether the barangay is effectively implementing its programs and services.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Alunday emphasized that the true measure of good governance goes beyond inspection day and should be reflected in everyday service.

He added that good governance is demonstrated not in a single day but through continuous service delivery, proper use of funds, and prompt response to the needs of the community.

“Ti panagserbi ket masapol nga inaldaw ken makita ti umili. Saan laeng a no adda validation. Nasayaat a panangituray ket makita dapat inaldaw. Saan laeng a no adda asedegen ti validation ket bago tayo agaraw. Dapat tuloy-tuloy ti serbisyo tayo kadagiti tao nga nagtalek kadatayo and of course mausar nga dapat ng usto diay funds,” relayed the barangay captain.

Through the SGLGB, the DILG encourages barangays not only to pass assessments but also to sustain good governance practices throughout their term of service.
