Tinglayan LGU features skills, talents of PWDs during Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week

Tinglayan, Kalinga – The local government unit of Tinglayan manifested its continued support to persons with disabilities in town by celebrating their talents and skills anew during the celebration of the 46th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.


The celebration anchored with the theme “Promoting Inclusion: Celebrating Abilities and Advocating Access” was held Tuesday, July 23.


In said event, physically challenged individuals were able to demonstrate that they could still perform like their able-bodied counterparts despite their condition. They competed in singing competitions and board games.


In the solo competition, the singing prowess of Clementina Busakil captivated the attention of the judges and attendees, thus getting the top prize. She likewise won the duet competition, with her partner, Julia Pawid.


On the board games, Bobby Ayangwa, who was also one of the winners in 2023 snatched anew the first place in the dama competition. As for chess, Sapli Sabawil dominated the game. All of the winners were given P500 each.


The event was led by PDAO focal person SWO II Jessica Agod, Municipal Administrator Ramon Dungoc, SB Miguel Atumpa, and Executive Secretary Bartolome Aboli, representing Mayor Sacrament Gumilab.


Mayor Sacrament Gumilab has been a staunch supporter of PWDs and in an interview mentioned that by providing avenues for this sector of the society to participate in developmental activities they can contribute their skills and talents.


To recall, apart from the annual celebration, the municipality has also its own program dedicated to PWDs dubbed the ‘Fachang’ program.


Through said program, PWDs are entitled to receive P1,500 quarterly assistance or P6,000 annual assistance from the local government.


At present, there are 304 PWDs in the municipality.
