Tabuk City, Kalinga – The local government unit of Tinglayan led by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab reaffirmed its support for the quest of the Cordillera for self-governance during the province-wide gong relay held Monday, July 8, 2024, at the Kalinga Sports Center, Bulanao, Tabuk City.

The annual Unity Gong Relay, which was conducted this year through the beating of the gong by local officials and heads of various national-line agencies in the province, is a ceremony manifesting Kalinga officials’ unity in pursuit of regional autonomy.

In his speech, Mayor Gumilab underscored that the municipality of Tinglayan fully supports the goal, given its significance for the betterment of the province and the region.

“Ti Tinglayan ket adda nga maki-unity ti probinsya iti Kalinga ken iti Cordillera para iti awtonomiya, 100 percent iti suporta iti Tinglayan para ti regional autonomy,” emphasized Gumilab.

He added that when the region achieves that long-time dream, development in the region shall be faster and it can be at par with other progressive regions in the country.

“Ti purpose na talaga daytoy ket maikkan tayo ditoy Cordillera ti naan-anay nga pondo, tapnu kasta pumaspas iti development… ta nabati tayon nga taga Cordillera,” he said.

The local chief executive has always been vocal about his support in the pursuit of autonomy. Apart from encouraging yTinglayans to be supportive of the goal, he is one among the local leaders in Kalinga appealing to fellow Cordilleran leaders to unite and take necessary actions for the autonomy bill to be prioritized under the Marcos Administration
