Tinglayan, Kalinga – The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program of the national government continues to benefit people in Tinglayan, Kalinga providing them temporary employment in exchange for needed cash.

On Wednesday, March 13, 385 recipients of the program had their orientation and signed their contracts to begin their work through the program.

Recipients are from the five barangays of the municipality. These include 107 individuals from Basao, 105 from Dananao, 80 from Belong-Man-ubal, 47 from Old Tinglayan, and 46 from Buscalan.

According to Larae Lactao of LGU Tinglayan, the recipients will be involved in community services such as the cleaning of roads, canals, riverside, community pathways, and schools.

They will also perform other works based on the needed services of their barangay local government units.

After their 10-day work, beneficiaries are expected to receive their pay-out from the Department of Labor and Employment. As indicated in their contract, they would be paid P430 a day for a total of P4,300.

In total, the 385 recipients would get P1,655,500 from the local government unit of Tinglayan and DOLE.

“This initiative not only addresses immediate financial needs but also fosters a sense of empowerment and community contribution,” Lactao said.

As relayed by Lactao, the initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of DOLE-Kalinga and the Local Government Unit of Tinglayan, led by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab and Vice Mayor Rogelio Tambalong.

More barangays will soon benefit from the program as local government officials continue their task of lobbying for funds from various agencies and officials to aid more displaced workers in the municipality.
