Odiem honored the iMabilong weavers on October 9, 2025 at Belalao Hills, Brngy. Mabilong Lubuagan—acknowledging their crucial role in preserving cultural heritage and weaving not only fabric but also the values of solidarity, dignity, and advancement for the province's future.

Long renowned for their expertise in the intricate craft of laga (backstrap loom weaving), the iMabilong weavers now have a dedicated area where they can practice, teach the craft to upcoming generations, and welcome both domestic and international guests.

Vice Gov. Odiem commended the Mabilong weavers’ community’s devotion for keeping the traditional weaving alive to this day, saying, “Adu ti weavers tayo ditoy Kalinga ngem taga-Mabilong lang ti nagipapati nga ituloy ti panaglaga agingggana tadta. Palakpakan tako cha kakailyan taun Mabilong. May you continue to weave unity, dignity and progress into the fabric of the furute Lubuagan and of the province of Kalinga as a whole.”

Odiem also emphasized that the ’chomchomog’ or inauguration of the center is more than just a structure—it is a symbol of identity and resilience.

“This event signifies the completion of the construction of the building and its readiness to be used and occupied by its intended occupants. Kanina, we have witnessed yung mga ginawa nila. Pero the main purpose there is to ask the almighty God—thanking him for all the blessings he has bestowed. This center is a symbol of empowerment of community and preservation of our cultural heritage,” he said.

The vice governor extended his gratitude to the agencies and partners involved in the center’s realization, citing their support as instrumental in promoting local industry and cultural pride.

Said event was attended by various provincial stakeholders led by Governor James S. Edduba and Vice Governor Dave Odiem along with national and local officials, including Senator Loren Legarda represented by Ms. Jasmine Baac, Congresswoman Caroline Agyao represented by Regie Wacas, and DOST-PTRI Director IV, Dr. Julius Leano, among others.

For the iMabilong weavers, the occasion was both a celebration and a reminder of their vital place in the province’s story, with the hope to not only sustain their livelihoods but also inspire younger generations to embrace and uphold their cultural identity.
