Tuguegarao City, Cagayan―Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano is to secure 25,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine which he requested from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Baguio through the Resolution No. 056-08-2021.

The mayor endorsed to the city council the request for the passage of a resolution requesting the City Government of Baguio through Mayor Benjamin Magalong to reserve or allocate twenty-five thousand sets of AstraZeneca vaccines for the city.

According to Tuguegarao City Information Office, the reason behind is that Baguio City was identified as among the pilot areas where mass inoculation will be undertaken once vaccines arrive in the country.

The City Council of Tuguegarao approved the said request stating the lives and safety of the residents of the city are at stake. Additionally, it was done to meet the required amount of vaccines needed in the city as the vaccine coming from the National Government may not be adequate.

Baguio City has been in the forefront of acquiring vaccines and have been one of the few LGUs who have made confirmation on their plans to procure their own doses.

Earlier this month, Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced the city government has entered into a deal with British-Swedish parmaceutical company AstraZeneca for the procurement of vaccines that will benefit a total of 190,000 individuals in Baguio City.
