Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Amid the rising cases of Covid-19 in the province and the threat of the Omicron variant, employees of both public and private offices in Cagayan are now required to present a vaccination card before entering their offices, according to Cagayan Provincial Information Office.

Under Executive Order No. 1 series of 2022, it stated that all employees in private establishments and public government agencies must now present a vaccination card showing that they have been fully vaccinated before they are allowed to enter their offices.

“Alam po natin na itong Omicron is 4 to 5 times infectious compared to other variants… so ang gagawin po natin para lahat ay magpabakuna ay talagang hihigpitan po natin ito… na magpapalabas po tayo [ng executive order] na lahat ng private at ating government offices [employees] ay hindi po makakapasok kung walang vaccination card,” Cagayan Provincial Governor Manuel Mamba said on Friday, Jan. 8, during his Caygandang Cagayan program.

Service providers are likewise required to present a vaccination card when entering their offices.

It stated in the EO that anyone who violates the provision will be subjected to corresponding penalties in accordance with Covid-19 protocols, ordinances, or laws to which it applies.

Under the Local Government Code of the Philippines, the local government is granted the power to implement various measures in dealing with the health and security of the people in its jurisdiction.

The EO took effect on January 8 this year and shall remain in place until it is revoked by the chief executive.

As of January 8, 2022, Cagayan Province recorded at least 163 COVID-19 cases, with a total of 627 for the whole week.
