“Wala akong planong tumakbong Mayor… I post on Facebook so that those who voted for me will know what I am doing” — Atty. Comafay clarifies he isn't credit grabbing neither grandstanding

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — City Councilor Atty. Errol Comafay Jr. said he has no intention of running for mayor in the next election.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 15, Comafay shared the privilege speech delivered by one of his fellow councilors during the session. In his reply, he said he is not a “credit grabber,” neither is he “grandstanding.”

Comafay said he explained that his Facebook posts are intended to inform the people who voted for him about the work he is doing as their councilor.

“I post on Facebook so that those who voted for me will know what I am doing,” Comafay said, as he recounted his response during the session.

He also denied claiming credit for the work of other councilors.

According to Comafay, he repeatedly emphasized that he was not grandstanding because he has no plan to run for mayor in the next election.

“Paulit-ulit kong sinabing hindi ako nag-gragrandstanding dahil wala akong planong tumakbong Mayor sa susunod na eleksyon,” he said.

The issue stemmed from a privilege speech delivered during the council session, in which a councilor appealed to members to observe proper legislative procedures and give due credit to colleagues for their proposed measures.

The speech noted that some proposed resolutions and ordinances had allegedly been shared on social media even before they were formally deliberated or acted upon by the council. It cited the Drop Ball resolution authored by Councilor Jefferson Bon-as and the ordinance regulating pork meat prices authored by Councilor TJ Duyan as examples of measures that had already been calendared or acted upon.

The councilor who Comafay did not name stressed that the appeal was not intended to discourage initiative or prevent members from presenting proposals, but to encourage proper coordination and use of appropriate legislative channels to avoid duplication, confusion and misunderstanding.

Comafay ended his post by leaving the matter to the public.

“Mga kababayan, kayo na ang humusga,” he said.
