Tabuk City, Kalinga – Lieutenant General Aristotle Danan Gonzales of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) assured the people of Kalinga that security operations would not disrupt their culture and way of life.

The statement of Gonzales was made on February 14, 2026, during his visit to Kalinga Province, serving as Guest of Honor on the foundation day of the province’s 31st Founding Anniversary celebration.

In his message, Gonzales conveyed to the iKalingas that the AFP remains committed to protecting communities while preserving their identity and traditions. He emphasized that peace and security efforts are intended to support—not alter—the cultural foundations that have long sustained harmony among the people.

“Your peace and security is our mission without disrupting your rich culture and way of life. The AFP is a partner in your journey, a witness to your strength, and a true admirer of your culture. Your culture has fostered peace. We are here to honor a living legacy of peace,” Gonzales stated.

The three-star AFP official acknowledged that “true lasting peace” is not something the military can impose but something that must be built within communities.

“In our profession, we have learned that true lasting peace is built with the people, never imposed upon them. Long before modern institutions were established, the people of Kalinga were already practicing dialogue, accountability, and collective responsibility. These same values continue to guide the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he added.

Who is Gonzales?

Gonzales previously held key positions in the Philippine Air Force before assuming his current post. He served as Chief of Air Staff, Commander of the 15th Strike Wing, Commander of Tactical Operations Wing Northern Luzon, and Head of the Air Education, Training, and Doctrine Command.

He was promoted to Lieutenant General by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. during his assumption of command on October 24, 2025. Since then, he has led NOLCOM’s transition from internal security operations to external defense.

Adopted Son of Kalinga

In recognition of his leadership in advancing peace, the provincial government declared Gonzales an adopted son of Kalinga, conferring upon him the honorary name “Gasingga,” symbolizing a fearless, disciplined, courageous, and exceptionally strong warrior.

The recognition was granted through Resolution No. 2026-047 passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. Provincial officials, led by Governor James S. Edduba, Vice Governor Dave Odiem, and Congresswoman Caroline Agyao, formally conferred the honor through a ceremonial donning of traditional Kalinga male attire, including a shield and spear, feathered headgear, and bahag—symbolizing his acceptance into the community.
