83 Lubuagan Fisherfolks received free 46,250 Tilapia Fingerlings

Lubuagan, Kalinga-The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources recently distributed tilapia fingerlings to 83 trained and assessed fisher folks in Lubuagan to increase fresh fish availability in the local market and to boost fish production.

A total of 46,250 pieces of tilapia fingerlings were distributed to fisher folks from the barangays of Tanglag, Antonio Canao, Mabilong, Poblacion and Dangoy through the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) led by the Office of the Municipal Agricultural Services (OMAS) on Wednesday, Sept 8 2021.

According to Municipal Agriculturist Charlie Osdeg, with the program, fresh fish could now be provided by local suppliers since the upper part of the municipality sell frozen fishes.

Osdeg said, “Aside from ilako da jay daduma nga fish, for consumption iti dadduma so nu ada tinaraken da ket fresh jay supply as a source of protein.”

He disclosed that the fisher folks were actually trained on production, assessed, and chosen by the Provincial Fishery Office.

Meanwhile, free feeds needed for fish growth from Fry mash, Pre-starter, Starter, and Grower to Finisher can be received by the beneficiaries at the BFAR provincial office.

What is SAAD?

SAAD stands for Special Area for Agricultural Development. It is a national program of the government to help marginalized farmers and fishers move out of poverty by increasing food production and establish community enterprise through providing appropriate technology, marketing, and other services.
