Old woman dies after teen rider struck her motorcycle in Ballesteros, Cagayan

Ballesteros, Cagayan - What was supposed to be a peaceful evening ride of an elderly woman in Ballesteros, Cagayan ended in tragedy after her motorcycle was struck by another motorcycle driven by a teenager, resulting in her death. 

The accident, according to the police report obtained by a local media outlet, occurred around 9:31 p.m. on May 13, along the National Highway in Barangay Santa Cruz, Ballesteros. 

Involved in the accident were a matte blue Yamaha Mio Gear 125 driven by Harold, 16, and a metallic gray Yamaha Mio Soul 125 driven by the 62-year-old victim, identified as Eva. 

Police investigation revealed that Harold’s motorcycle suddenly swerved into the opposite lane, causing a head-on collision with Eva’s vehicle. 

As a result, Eva was severely injured, while Harold and her 19-year-old back rider, Gerald, sustained minor injuries. 

The responding medical team rushed Eva to the Ballesteros District Hospital, but the  old woman was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. 

As of this writing, the involved motorcycles are under the custody of the Ballesteros Police Station for further investigation and legal processing. 

Police have yet to report any actions that may be taken against the 16-year-old rider.
