11-yr.-old boy drowns while swimming with friends along Chico River in Cagayan


Sto. Niño, Cagayan - Rescuers recovered the dead body of a boy afternoon of Sunday, August 20, at the Chico River in Sitio Tung-tung, San Manuel, Sto. Niño.


Authorities were called to the river at 12 pm on said date and after three hours of search and retrieval operations, his body was found.


They tried to resuscitate the victim but there were no signs of heartbeat.

He was then transferred to their barangay waiting shed while waiting for the arrival of police and personnel of the town’s rural health unit for proper disposition.


When asked what happened, residents in the area told rescuers an 11-year-old boy drowned in the river while swimming with his friends.


Accordingly, he was swept away by a strong water current into a deep part of the river where he drowned.


The victim has been identified as Jhonel Jay Requimin, 11, a resident of Zone 6, San Manuel, Sto. Nino.
