126 families in Abra benefit get housing units after their homes were destroyed by 7.0 magnitude earthquake in 2022

Echague, Isabela - Earthquake-affected families in Abra whose homes were destroyed during the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in 2022 will soon have a safer and permanent shelter with the recent completion of 126 housing units in the province.


On July 27, 2022, hundreds of families were displaced displaced following the devastation of the earthquake that had its epicenter in Tayum town. It was one of the strongest to hit the province in recent years, apart from the one that occurred in 1990.

With the completion of the 126 housing units in Tayum, the affected families can soon move to their new and more secure homes. 


The housing units, part of the Indigo Housing Subdivision, also benefit residents living in identified danger zones in said town. 


According to the Philippine Information Agency–Abra, the project was made possible through the collaboration of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), SM Development Corporation (SMDC), the Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP) Foundation, and the local government unit of Tayum. 


The housing site covers 17,000 square meters of the LGU-owned property.


Leading the blessing of the newly built houses were SMDC Vice President for Business Planning and Development Shiela Ching, DHSUD Assistant Secretary Angelito Aguila, DHSUD-Cordillera Director Marvin Feraren, ANCOP President Rudy Gaspillo, Abra Vice Governor Anne Bersamin, and Tayum Mayor Placido Eduarte Jr.
