2 Covid-19 Omicron variant detected in Cagayan


Cagayan, Philippines – Two cases of the highly transmissible Covid-19 Omicron variant were detected and confirmed in the Province of Cagayan today, January 18.


The Cagayan Provincial Information Office reveals that Provincial Health Officer Dr. Carlos Cortina III confirmed the said first Omicron variant cases in Cagayan. Based on the report, the samples were taken and subjected to sequencing at the Philippine Genome Center last December 2021.

Cortina disclosed that one patient is from Cato, Tuao, who has a travel history in Metro Manila, while the other one is from Caggay, Tuguegarao City. The Provincial Health Officer said that both are declared clinically recovered.


Health officials are still investigating other details on said first two Omicron cases in the province.

Meantime, Cagayan has 3,083 Covid-19 active cases with 528 newly confirmed and recorded cases this Monday, January 17.


Of the said active cases, 1,595 were said to be detected in Tuguerao City.
