2 dead, 3 injured after a vehicle plunges into 40-meter ravine

Buguias, Benguet – Two died while three were injured after their vehicle plunged into a ravine more than 40 meters deep in Buguias, Benguet, on Sunday night, January 16.


Police identified those who died as a certain Tyler Soriano Bitayan, 58 years old, and Marceline Dada-an Calimodag, 51. Both are farmers and residents of Proper Amgaleyguey, Buguias, Benguet.


The injured individuals were identified as Maricel Dada-an Calimodag, 25 years old, Tony Lipawen Calimodag, 61, and Helen Lipawen Soriano, 60. They are residents of the same Barangay. The driver, identified as Frany Baday Calimodag, 31 years old, did not sustain injury.

Police Captain Marnie Abellanida, Police Regional Office Cordillera Public Information Officer, as reported by Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation, said that the victims aboard a Tamaraw FX were traversing the Guiwe Amgaleyguey road in Buguias when the incident happened.


Police, in their initial investigation, revealed that the driver was not able to manage to maneuver the wheels in a curb part of the road that the vehicle hit the roadside wall resulting in the car to swerve and overturn before it fell into the 40-meter ravine.

The victims were rushed to the Lutheran Hospital, but Bitayan and Calimodag were declared Dead on Arrival while the other victims were referred for admission.
