Tabuk City, Kalinga – Two former rebels from Kalinga are among the five ex-cadres who benefitted from the more than P2 million housing assistance released by the government on October 27 through the Office of the National Housing Authority 2 in Tuguegarao City.

The amount was split into P450,000 for each of the five beneficiaries who were once members of the communist terrorist group but decided to turn their back from the underground movement to return to the government.

The 5th Infantry Division reported that the P450,000, which came from the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government, will be used for their house construction.

If the beneficiaries will decide to base the house blueprint on the NHA engineering and architectural design, the house will consist of two bedrooms, a living and dining area, a kitchen, and a comfort room.

Meantime, Engineer Roderick Ibañez, NHA 2 Regional Manager, explained that the housing project aims to provide the former rebels with a comfortable place to stay, assuring the ex-rebels that the door of the NHA is always open to assist them.

Alias Awit, the former Vice Platoon Leader of Squad Uno of Danilo Ben Command, West Front Committee expressed that the assistance will give them a comfortable home which, he said, has never been given to them in his 10 years inside the movement.

Alias Sib-at, the former Team Leader of Leho Cauilan Command in the Province of Kalinga, urged those who are still in the mountains to come down and lay down their arms and take advantage of the opportunity and benefits the government is offering.

Major General Laurence Mina, 5ID Commander assured that through the Whole-of-Nation Approach, the state is doing its best to provide the necessary assistance to former rebels as they start a new life with their loved ones.
