2 rebels die in armed encounter in Besao, Mt. Province

Besao, Mt. Province — Two members of a communist terrorist group were killed after engaging in a firefight with operating military and police in the vicinity of Barangay Gueday, Besao on Saturday, October 30.


In a report, the Philippine National Police Mountain Province disclosed that the 69th Infantry Battalion and Besao Police Station launched a combat operation in said area where they encountered around 10 rebels believed to be members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla – Abra, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur(KLG-AMPIS).

An exchange of fire then followed that lasted for about 10 minutes.


The members of the KLG-AMPIS withdrew to the South-East direction towards Sitio Masameyeo in Barangay Gueday. Two of their members died during the gunfight.


Items recovered during the encounter include two pieces of R4 long firearms; 2 Bandolier; 4 long magazines; 6 Short magazines; medical kits; and other belongings.

Meanwhile, on the same date, the Mountain Province police discovered an abandoned encampment of a communist terrorist group in the tri-boundaries of Bantey, Tadian; Banguitan, Besao; and Balintaugan, Bauko.


Discovered includes a piece of mine; 31 pieces of stick dynamite commercial; a mine container with detonating cord; and other belongings of the rebels in the said area.


All of these items were recovered by the authorities as they made sure no improvised explosive devices were left in the abandoned encampment.
