2 top performing examinees in CPALE are graduates of Cordillera universities

Baguio City, Philippines – There is no denying that the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE) is one of the hardest board exams in the country.

In spite of this, two accountancy graduates in the Cordillera secured top spots in the May 2023 CPALE. These new Certified Public Accountants(CPA) are among the 2,239 who were able to pass out of the 7,376 individuals who took the May exam.

The two are Alexander Salvador Centino Bandiola Jr. of the University of the Cordilleras who emerged as the top one with an 89.50% rating and Neftali Blase Suarez of Saint Louis University, top 7 with an 88.17% average.

Preparing for the boards

The top performing Bandiola, in his live interview with Bombo Radyo Baguio, revealed he aspired to top the accountancy board exam since his freshman year in college. He recalled that part of his preparation for the board exam was answering the mock board at the time.

“Yung paghahanda po kasi para sa board exam hindi lang nagsisimula sa review... First year pa lang po ako nagta-try na po ako sa mock board exams ng school namin tapos kung may mga academic competitions po sinasalihan ko po lahat,” he said.

Bandiola who graduated Magna Cum Laude advises the next CPALE takers not to be afraid of the exam.

“Isa ito sa mga kilalang pinakamahirap na exam dahil mababa nga rin yung passing rate pero wag kayong matakot, maging pursigido lang po kayo dahil worth it naman po yung license,” he conveyed.

‘Setting a new landmark’

The Commission on Higher Education(CHED) – Cordillera commended Bandiola and Suarez for their outstanding performance, citing they ‘have truly created a new landmark in the history of CAR HEIs(Higher Education Institutions)’.

“This achievement further solidifies the region's reputation as a hub of excellence in education,” CHED Cordillera further said.
