2025 Lumin-awa Kalinga Trek in Balbalan: Route and activities released

Balbalan, Kalinga – The Lumin-awa Kalinga Trek this year is packed with sceneries to see and adventures to experience that will surely delight and invigorate participants wanting a break from their daily hustle and bustle.

 

The much-awaited activity which serves as one of the highlights of the Kalinga 30th Founding Anniversary and 6th Bodong Festival celebration is set to take place on February 5 – 7 in the Municipality of Balbalan. The town is home to the Banao Protected Landscape, one of Kalinga’s gems of biodiversity and cultural heritage.

 

Mayor Almar Malannag earlier expressed that the participants in this year’s Lumin-awa Trek will enjoy the well-preserved nature and wildlife in the municipality. Apart from that, they shall have time to re-energize themselves on picnic grounds and even swim in the Saltan River, one of the cleanest rivers in the country. They will have time to see some native birds and native fish like the ‘ugadiw’.


Individuals who wish to join the adventure are required to register through https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScoX9kMJoT3h1MnovZmJZoeyXJIenkeJKvV3nbid50fsiVbNQ/viewform  and pay the P600 registration fee – P450 of the amount goes to the tour guide, P50 for environmental user’s fee, P60 entrance fee, and P40 entrance fee to the protected area. To those who wish to register with a t-shirt, the fee shall be P1,150.

 

Route and Activities

 

In the itinerary released by the Kalinga Provincial Information Office, expected arrival of participants’ in Balbalan is on February 4. Accommodation options are available in Barangays Poblacion, Pantikian, Talalang, and Balbalasang.

 

On February 5 at 6:00 a.m., trekkers are to gather at the Kalinga – Abra boundary road where they first undergo safety briefing and orientation before they begin hiking towards the Mt. Nabanderaan down to the Pamusilon Camping Ground. The trekkers will set up their respective tents upon arrival at the site where they can enjoy some leisure time and socialization activities.

 

On the second day of the trek, February 6, the participants will have the time to explore sceneries, nature, and preserved wildlife at the Pamusilon from 6: 00 a.m. – 12:00 noon before they are to move towards Ducligan where they are to camp for the night at the Ducligan Camping Ground. The Municipal LGU of Balbalan will be hosting Victory and Cultural Night for the participants at the site.

 

For the third and last day of the trek, February 7, the participants will be trekking the historic old Spanish Trail until they arrive at Falasig for socialization and picnic. The departure to Tabuk City will be at 1:00 p.m. on the same day.
