Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 24-hour checkpoint in Tabuk City has been implemented which began today, May 31, 2021, by the Public Order and Safety Office of the LGU as part of their campaign to reduce traffic accidents in the City.

Just last week, the city saw five recorded road accidents, excluding those self-inflicted ones. Some of the accidents resulted in heavy damage of properties and serious injuries.

POSO Tabuk in partnership with LTO-Highway Patrol Group and a rider organization is running the checkpoint 24-hours for a week along the Dagupan-Bulanao Provincial Road.

One of the POSO Officers, Freddie Bonilla, said that with the checkpoint set-up for a week they will be able to at least reduce the number of illegal vehicles plying the roads and apprehend violators, especially those who drive without license and use unregistered vehicles.

“Nag-schedule tayo ti checkpoint for 24-hours for a week tapno bumaba koma ti kinaado ti lugan nga mabalin nga isu ti cause ti accidente kasta met mabagaan dagiti violators,” Bonilla said.

In their initial records, Bonilla disclosed that most violations are the usual findings of the statistical record reported by the Traffic Management Unit of Tabuk, no license and drivers who are minors. On the other hand, he said that the positive thing is that most riders are now wearing helmets.

Meantime, during a visit with Police Lt. John Macli-ing at the Tabuk TMU, the traffic management unit officer emphasized the need of educating drivers and information drive regarding traffic rules, defensive driving as well as ways to avoid fatal accidents.

Macli-ing added that the traffic accident problem cannot be solved by the police alone as this issue involves all sectors of the society, from strict implementation of laws to imposition of self-discipline.
