30 young agripreneurs join Cordillera’s first Agribiz Summit

Baguio City, Philippine – At least 30 young agriprenuers from the different provinces of the region took part in the two-day blended first Cordillera Agribiz Summit, held from Nov 19 to 20.

Said summit was spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) in partnership with the regional Agricultural Training Institute (ATI-CAR).

DA, in a press release, said that the meeting served as a venue for Youth Agribiz grantees to share their experiences and issues encountered during the implementation of their business proposals.

Said activity would help the department determine the needed assistance or interventions to strengthen agripreneurship among the young participants.

During the two-day summit, agripreneur representatives from the seven provinces of the region presented their best practices in implementing Business Model Canvasses (BMCs) on mushroom production, chili processing, urban gardening, seedling production, “rabbitry” among other activities promoting agriculture business.

Cordillera Kabataang Agribiz Club was also organized electing regional officers and provincial coordinators, to establish connections and linkages among the youth agripreneurs in different parts of the region.

Dr. Cameron Odsey, DA-CAR OIC-Regional Executive Director, in a separate statement, said that the Youth Agribiz program is an initiative to encourage the sector to engage in agriculture.

"This program is encouraging our youth to go into agriculture. Through the Kabataang Agribiz Challenge, we want to encourage the youth to look at agriculture as a work opportunity. The young people are now interested in agriculture, and they see it as a source of income and a lifetime career," he said.

Kabataang Agribiz is an assistance program of DA for individuals aged 18 to 30 that provides cash grants for Filipino youth who are ready and willing to engage in agriculture and fishing business enterprises.
