With said health concern, health authorities in the province are urging the public to strengthen hygiene practices and advised schools to enforce strict hygiene measures now that classes have resumed.

According to DOH, HFMD is a highly contagious disease, commonly affecting children. The disease can easily spread at homes, schools, and daycare centers, among other public/crowded places.

HFMD is typically a mild disease, but when it is not immediately cured, it can lead to serious complications like neurological issues and even cardiopulmonary failure, potentially resulting in death. With that, immediate medical attention is needed.

Symptoms of HFMD infection includes fever, sores in the mouth, sore throat, and rashes or blisters on the hands, feet, and buttocks, among others.
