304 Development Workers in Kalinga honoured for their services

Tabuk City, Kalinga – 304 Development workers have been honoured and given cash incentives including a gift pack as part of the celebration of 28 National Children’s month this December, according to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer-in-charge Rosemaritez Apil-Oyawon.


Oyawon expressed her gratitude mentioning that these workers, despite the pandemic, have accomplished a lot “whether it’s changing diapers, getting the children fed, or assisting them on the potty, you never get upset when they make a mistake, allowing them at (to) feel at ease (and) exploring the right and wrong ways of doing things on their own.”


Oyawon said that the National Children's Month does not only celebrate children but also those who take care of them and their social well-being, hence the convention are yearly conducted to give gratitude to the said workers.


She said that this year’s theme “Child Development Workers HERO (Hope, Exemplar, Resilient, Optimist) of the children in line of the pandemic” coincide with these workers’ passion, dedication, sacrifices and significant roles in molding the yKalinga new generation.

“Ammok nga a day in 365 days is not enough to express our gratitude for everything that you do for our three to four year old Day-care children. The sacrifices that you make, the patience that you show, the way you carry out your roles and responsibilities of not just being a child development worker, but providing our children home away from home is a virtue,” Oyawon said in her message.


Kalinga Gov. Tubban message


In his message, Governor Ferdinand Tubban commended the workers’ efforts, understanding, sacrifices and their role as a whole in the lives of these children.


“… dakkel nga banag ti panag-biyag da ken panag-buo da ti pagkatao da. Isu nga dakayo nga CDW ket makuna tayo nga heroes. These children will never forget you same as I never forgot my teachers. Parents are forever grateful (of) your services,” Tubban said.


The governor at the same time assured of the PLGU’s support to the group’s programs and all its endeavours for the benefit of both the workers and the children.


“Isu nga kas ama iti probinsiya tayo, aramiden mi met amin tapnu makasubalit ti malasakit yo. Sumuporta kami iti programa yo haan laen nga para iti pagsayaatan yonu di ket pagsayaatan met lang dagiti uubbing pay nga ayawanan yo,” he added.


National Children’s Month acitvities


Meanwhile, the governor’s office gave its support to the PSWDO’s virtual TikTok Challenge contest participated by the different municipalities and city in line with the NCM celebration which focuses on upholding children’s rights during the pandemic.

The Municipality of Pasil won first place and was awarded 3,500 pesos while Balbalan came second receiving 2,500 pesos, Tabuk won third place and was given 2,000 pesos and Rizal at fourth place given 1,500 pesos. 1,000 peso cash was awarded to Tanudan, Tinglayan and Pinukpuk as consolation prize.


By virtue of Republic Act 10661, the National Children’s Month (NCM) in the Philippines, in commemoration with the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) on 20 November 1989 is a celebration that seeks to instill children’s right’s significance in the Filipino consciousness.


It is spearheaded by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), National Youth Commission (NYC) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) with the support of the CWC Board member agencies.


This year’s 28th NCM theme is “Sama-samang Itaguyod Ang Karapatan ng Bawat Bata sa Panahon ng Pandemya”.
