According to Cagayan Provincial Information Office, Dr. Myka Ponce of PVET said that the ASF again attacked the municipalities of Claveria, Ballesteros, Piat, and Aparri, affecting at least 43 farmers.

Ponce revealed that in Claveria, around 192 hogs were culled in barangays Tabbugan, Luzon, Sto. Nino, Centro 8, Dibalion, Sta. Maria, at Bacsay. While 45 hogs in barangays Palloc, Zitanga, and Amubuan in Ballesteros were buried.

Further, 11 hogs in Maguiling, Piat, and 60 hogs in Bulala, Aparri, were also depopulated due to the virus.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Cagayan compensated the farmers with P3,000 for each infected hog.

The Provincial Veterinary Office and other concerned agencies are continuously monitoring the neighboring places of the four ASF-affected municipalities in order to control the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, Calayan, Penablanca, Lasam, Gattaran, Sta. Praxedes, Sta. Teresita, and Rizal remain ASF-free as of today.

The ASF virus infection began inflicting damages in the hog industry in Cagayan in February 2020.
