45 child abuse cases monitored in Baguio City from Jan-Mar 2023

Baguio City Philippines – A total of 45 child abuse cases were documented in Baguio City from January to March 2023, this is higher by 11 cases compared to the ones monitored for the same period last year.


As cited by City Social Welfare and Development Office – Gender and Development focal person Myrna Valencerina through the Baguio City Public Information Office, 40 of the 45 victims were girls.

She added that the majority of the violations committed against these children were sexual abuses with 31 cases. All of them were female.


Other cases were physical abuse with 11 cases – 7 girls, 4 boys; 1 psychological abuse; and 2 neglected.


The data also showed that 36 of these abused children were ages 11-18.


Meantime, 12 of these 45 cases have been filed to proper authorities wherein 2 had already been given decisions while the remaining 10 are still on trial.


Further, 33 cases are undergoing appropriate intervention programs by the CSWDO and other concerned agencies for reformation.


According to the Council for the Welfare of Children, around 8,948 children in the country experienced abuse in 2022.
