5 carnappers dead in bloody encounter with Benguet police

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

Tuba, Benguet—A highjacking incident of 5 carnappers ended in a bloody encounter with the police on Wednesday morning, June 30, in Taloy Sur Proper, Marcos Highway, Tuba Benguet.

All five were killed in the shootout with two of the slain suspects wearing police uniforms.

The investigators believed they use the police uniforms to pass through checkpoints without getting noticed.

The initial report from the police showed that the operatives in Tuba and the Regional Highway Patrol Group were in pursuit of alleged car thieves who stole a Wing Van truck in La Trinidad around one o’clock in the morning.

After two hours, they came across the 5 men on board the said truck and a gray SUV Chevrolet without a plate number at the place of incident. When the carnappers saw the police closing into them, they fired their guns, which prompted the operatives to fire back.

The car thieves died on the spot after getting fatally shot. The identities of the thieves are yet to be released pending investigation.

The bodies, after they were processed by the operatives, were taken to a funeral while the stolen vehicle was recovered.
