Peñarrubia, Abra—Fifty-three learners of the multi-grade Sta. Rosa Elementary School (ES) could now conveniently accomplish their self-learning modules while studying at home after receiving free tables made by a physically challenged teacher.
This was made possible through “Lamisaan Ti Adal,” a project initiated by the teachers of Sta. Rosa ES as a result of their monitoring conducted before the start of the school year 2020-2021.
“Diay ayan ti monitoring before classes, napan kami nag-paspasyar ti learners and we found out nga medyo haan a conducive dagidiay places da for learning, napansin namin a very poor talaga yung community…nakita mi a diay lamisaan da lattan ket kasla kuma panganan, pagadalan kasdiay sir,” School Head Teacher Maria Lorena Bisares revealed in an interview.
The project then started in June last year with 10 learners as its first recipients. The first ten tables were made of scraps of wood collected in the school while some were brought by parents.
Teacher suffering from polio creates tables for learners
Nick Alconis, a teacher polio survivor, volunteered to design and craft the tables manifesting his dedication to the project. His action also showcases the teachers’ role in guiding learners to ensure that learning continues despite the pandemic.
For the succeeding learning tables made, Bisares said that funds used came from benefactors including personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection- Peñarrubia, Dr. Francisco Beria Jr., and Mrs. Filomena Semanero.
“Although free labor po siya, yung mga succeeding budget, agkurang metten and then napanunut mi a napintas nga ikkan tayun dagidiay awan pay isu nga nag-source out tayo. Naki-partner nak ti BFP ken ni Doctor Beria, maysa a dentist a nang-adopt ti school mi since 2018, 3 years ago,” she stated.
The remaining tables of learner recipients were turned over on September 25, 2020.
The learner tables proved to have helped in the study habits among pupils. This was evident during the house-to-house monitoring conducted by the teachers and performance assessment of the learners.
For the incoming school year, the provision of additional tables for incoming Kindergarten pupils is now being eyed by the school.
