Tabuk City, Kalinga – Seven towns in Kalinga remains under the red zone for African Swine Fever (ASF) based on the updated Zoning map and Zoning Status covering April 12 to April 25, 2022 of the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Animal Industry.
Said towns include Balbalan, Pasil, Pinukpuk, Rizal, Tabuk City, Tanudan, and Tinglayan.
When an area is declared a red zone, it means it was previously infected with the swine flu but there are no reported cases of infection within the last 90 days.
“Bagamat nananatili tayong red zone sa national zoning, hindi ibig sabihin na meron tayong ongoing ASF cases. Until na magsumite ang mga municipalities ng requirements para ma-upgrade tayo from red zone to pink zone,” Provincial Veterinarian Leonardo Damian said in an interview.
“To date, we do not have any recorded ASF cases in Kalinga and our latest reported case is last week of January 2022,” Damian clarified.
Damian said that there is a tendency for said municipalities to be downgraded into pink or buffer zone or even yellow or surveillance zone if said municipalities are able to comply with the needed documentary requirements.
Said supporting documents include a copy of Municipal Ordinance/Executive Order on Adoption of BABay ASF Program; copy of the farm registry of the municipality (includes proof of membership in FCA, if applicable, and Registry System of Basic Sector of Agriculture membership number, list of trainings on Swine Biosecurity and summary of ASF history in the area in narrative format, including a summary of outbreaks, surveillance, and measures to prevent reintroduction of ASF in the area.
If able to accomplish said documents, concerned LGUs should submit these to the Provincial Office for Veterinary Services for certification.
Meantime, Lubuagan is the lone municipality in the province which is under Pink Zone signifying that ASF is no longer present in the area, but the locality is adjacent to areas under the infected zone.
As for other provinces in the Cordillera, 7 municipalities in Abra which include Boliney, Daguioman, Licuan-Baay, Malibcong, Sallapadan, Tineg, and Tubo are also under said zone while all the seven towns of Apayao are also included in the list as ASF infected areas.
As for Benguet, the eight red zone municipalities are Atok, Bokod, Buguias, Itogon, La Trinidad, Mankayan, Tuba, and Tublay while Kabayan town which was once declared as red zone was downgraded as buffer zone.
Further, Ifugao has 9 ASF-infected zones which include Banaue, Kiangan, Lagawe, Lamut, Mayoyao, Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo, Tinoc, and Asipulo. Mountain Province, on the other hand, has 8 ASF-infected zone areas which include Bauko, Besao, Bontoc, Natonin, Paracelis, Sadanga, Sagada, and Tadian.
