74-year-old widow in Buscalan, Tinglayan drowns; body recovered

Buscalan, Tinglayan - An elderly woman from Barangay Buscalan, Tingalayan was finally found at around 4:30 on November 10 – following a drowning incident at Sitio Mangapi at said barangay.


According to Kalinga PPO Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff B. Manganip in an interview, the drowning incident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. on November 9.


Based on the narrative of Imelda Lam-ao, she and he mother -Lam-ao Baot - were on their way to Buscalan when a sudden gust of wind caused the elderly woman to lose her balance and fall into a nearby brook, where she was swept away by the strong current.


After the incident was reported, the body was later found along Chico River at Barangay Bangad, Tinglayan through a joint effort of the Tinglayan LGU, PNP, BFP, MDRRMO Tinglayan and residents of Buscalan.


To recall, the Super Typhoon Uwan made landfall in the town of Dinalungan, Aurora province on November 9, along with strong winds and moderate to severe rains across the Cordillera region.


Today, Kalinga province is assessing the extent of damage of the said typhoon. According to Governor James Edduba, citing reports from the Kalinga PDRRMC, the number of casualty in Kalinga related to the typhoon reached 5.
