Tabuk City, Kalinga – Eight persons with disability in the city will begin working on their micro-start-up after having been granted livelihood kits by the Department of Trade and Industry-Kalinga.

The giving of P8,000 worth of starter kits is in line with the celebration of the 34th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week, according to the agency.

Through the Livelihood Seeding Program- Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (LSP-PPG), micro-enterprises affected by fire incidents, COVID-19 pandemic, and other calamities are aided in recovering.

DTI-Kalinga said the PWD recipients are the ‘living proof’ that disability is just a term, and this does not hinder them from running a successful business, especially when they are determined and they have faith.

DTI-Kalinga expects that, with the program, the public will be made aware that disability shall not be a reason for discrimination in terms of accessibility to government programs.

In a statement, DTI Provincial Director Renie Ramos said the aid is not a loan scheme; there is no need for the recipients to make a repayment.

The aid is not an “ayuda” either, as “ayuda” is purely consumable items, he added.

The recipients were told by the provincial director to take good care of the seed capital and grow their enterprise to augment their income.

To make sure recipients abide by the regulations of the grant, the agency will be monitoring the progress of their enterprise periodically.
