Abra extends ECQ until September 17 as cases continue to go up

Abra, Philippines – The Province of Abra will remain under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) status until September 17 due to the detection of the more transmissible Indian or Delta COVID-19 variant and the continuous increase in number of cases, having reached 135 on Sunday, September 5.


The province’s placement under ECQ status was earlier declared to end on September 7, 2021, but the provincial government issued an Executive Order (EO) today, September 7, mandating its extension.


The EO cited that, as of September 5, 2021, the province reached 135 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 48 COVID-19 related deaths, and the total cases has reached 2,239.


On the same date, the Abra PLGU received an official report that the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) of COVID-19 has been detected in the province.


This them prompted the issuance of the EO to further enforce community quarantine protocols for the health and safety of the people, and to prevent the spread of the virus in the province.


The order provides that the guidelines of the previously issued Executive Order No.s AU-03 to AU-09 series of 2021, shall still be followed, unless further extended, modified, or earlier withdrawn. One of those provided in the guidelines is the use of White Pass when individuals leave their homes for essential purposes.

Provisions on travel protocols, protocols for triage units, access points, testing and quarantine, and such other guidelines in relation to the imposition of ECQ provided under said order should also be observed.


Further, the EO mandates members of the Provincial, Municipal, and Barangay Anti-Covid-19 Task Force to strictly impose minimum public health standards, and to strictly monitor all activities within their respective jurisdictions.


Municipal Mayors are also given authority to impose timely granular lockdowns and stricter quarantine guidelines as circumstances may demand, in accordance with the Zoning and Contact Tracing provision stated in EO AU-03 s 2021 and to NTF MC No. 2 s 2020.

Likewise, the order mandates that members of each Municipal Zoning and Containment Committee should be updated and copies should be forwarded to the Provincial Zoning and Containment Committee.


Widest dissemination of the order meantime, is tasked for the Provincial Information Office, Abra Police Provincial Office, all members of the Provincial Anti-COVID-19 Task Force, all Municipal Mayors, Punong Barangays, and all others concerned.
