Tabuk City, Kalinga – Out of war gear, Glaiza de Castro, who currently plays ‘Pirena’ in the hit TV fantasy drama ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sanggre’, appeared on national television on August 22, wearing the ginamat of Kalinga.

Ginamat is a traditional wrap-around skirt in Kalinga Province. It is one of the most known of the 25 textiles in the province, distinguished by its striking red color and embroidered geometric patterns.

On Friday, de Castro looked even more radiant, embracing the traditional attire of the iKalingas during her guesting at GMA’s Unang Hirit, a Philippine television news broadcasting and talk show. De Castro is a renowned and highly accomplished Filipino actress who is playing fan-favorite ‘ashti’ and ‘sanggre’ Pirena in the acclaimed television drama fantasy series.

Clad in ginamat, de Castro performed a song with Filipina folk musician Bayang Barrios.

The actress posted snapshots of her performance on Facebook with the caption: “Sulit ang gising sa umaga dahil naibahagi namin ni Ms @bayangbarrios ang aming awitin sa @unanghirit! Maraming salamat sa pagbibigay ng pagkakataong makanta ulit ito ng live.”

The iKalingas who saw the post reacted with admiration and thanked de Castro for supporting local weavers and for promoting the culture of Kalinga by wearing the ginamat during her national television appearance.
