Aguinaldo, Ifugao train 53 livestock owners on converting corn residues into feeds

Aguinaldo, Ifugao – To assist corn farmers in the municipality to generate additional income and help livestock raisers manage the shortage of feeds, the Municipal Agricultural Office of Aguinaldo conducted training on Silage Production and Total Mixed Ration (TMR) Formulation from Corn By-products from October 18-20, 2022.

In a press release Wednesday, October 27, the Office of Municipal Agriculture (OMAg) said the training is part of the Livestock Banner Program of the Department of Agriculture.

The training was participated in by 53 livestock raisers and was held at the CNRJ Cafe and Restaurant, Ubao, Aguinaldo, Ifugao.

During the training, personnel from the Department of Cordillera discussed with trainees the benefits of silage production and provided hands-on training in developing such feeds.

As observed in corn fields, cornstalks and other corn residues are just left to rot in the field, while some are collected and disposed of in inappropriate areas.

With the training, farmers can now convert corn residues into money by processing them into silage and selling the products to livestock owners or utilizing them to feed their own animals.

The trainers urged the farmers not to throw away corn stalks, corn cobs, and rice straws, but rather turn them into high-quality feeds.
