First Kalinga soldier completing United States Army Ranger Course is from Tinglayan

Tabuk City, Kalinga – First Lieutenant Castillion Antalis, an yKalinga soldier from Sumadel, Tinglayan, recently graduated from the U.S. Army Ranger School, a 62-day small-unit tactics and leadership course done in the United States.

Antalis is first from Kalinga, who successfully completed the said scout ranger training aimed at helping trainees develop practical abilities related to engaging with enemies in close quarters and direct-fire encounters.

It was 7 years ago when a Filipino Scout Ranger finished the said training, thus his completion of the training is considered by his comrade as a ‘momentous one’.

In a press release Thursday, October 27, Scout Ranger Alumni Association (SRAA)-Kalinga said Antalis was one among five selected scout rangers from the country sent to the US for said training.

Their training, which has three phases – Benning, Mountain, and Swamp Phase, started last July 19 and ended October 14, 2022.

1st Lt. Antalis bravely faced the Ranger Assessment Phase (RAP). Said phase, according to SRAA Kalinga, is the time when 40 percent of the trainees will be eliminated and will no longer be part of the training.

Out of more or less 400 students, Antalis was among the 115 trainees who survived said phase.

In an interview by the group with Antalis, he narrated one of the experiences he can recall is that the training would frequently challenge the trainees to go on even with lack of food and sleep.

Each phase, he added, would typically provide more challenges for them.

“The course is something to be reckoned with, as this training breeds one of the best soldiers of the United States Army,” SRAA -Kalinga emphasized.
