Tanudan, Kalinga – Stricter rules on smoking and vaping will soon be implemented in Tanudan, Kalinga, as a proposed municipal ordinance gains support from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

The Provincial Board approved and recommended the enactment of Municipal Ordinance No. 2026-110, which aims to regulate the use, sale, distribution, and advertisement of cigarettes, other tobacco products, and electronic cigarettes (vapes) in designated areas of the municipality.

The measure also provides penalties for violations and establishes the Tanudan Healthy Air and Tobacco-Free Task Force (THATF), which will be responsible for enforcing the ordinance.

Prior to its provincial approval, the ordinance underwent thorough review and was referred to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Rules and Ethics, chaired by Board Member Christopher Donaal.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, headed by Vice Governor Dave Odiem, approved the measure during its regular session on Tuesday, March 17, at the Legislative Building in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Among the board members present during the session who expressed support for the ordinance were Emilio Kitongan, Christopher Donaal, Roger Saga-oc, Romeo Saclag, Jay Harley Duguiang, Julius Amla, Jerome Chester Alunday, Alfredo K. Dangani, and IPMR Michael Karel Sugguiyao.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Odiem said the approval reflects the provincial government’s support for the Municipality of Tanudan in addressing health concerns related to smoking and vaping, particularly among the youth.

“Ammo tayo met ti epekto na ti sigarilyo, vape, ken daduma pay nga bisyo kadagitoy agtutubo tayo, isu nga awan gapo nga haan suportaran ti Sangguniang Panlalawigan daytoy nga ordinance,” the Vice Governor said.

With the approval, the ordinance is expected to be implemented soon, promoting a healthier environment in the municipality.
