Baby boy abandoned near irrigation canal in Dangan, Reina Mercedes, Isabela

Isabela, Philippines – The community in Dangan, Reina Mercedes was alarmed past 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, when one resident saw a baby lying at the side of the road near the irrigation canal. This prompted the woman to call for help.

The people who went to check on the baby described to authorities that the infant was clad in nothing but the fabric and carton covering him. He was moving at the time he was noticed by the people who immediately acted and brought him to the Barangay Community Center. The baby was later transferred to the Rural Health Unit of Reina Mercedes.

Fortunately, the infant is now in a stable condition. If it weren’t for the immediate intervention of the community, the baby could have suffered a much worse fate.

Meantime, authorities and the barangay are joining forces to trace the mother of the child. The barangay, as mentioned by the local media, said it will be reviewing the list of pregnant women in the community.

It could be recalled that just last week in Baguio City, a newborn was also abandoned, placed inside an eco-bag, and left somewhere in Upper Pinget, Baguio City.
