Baguio City, Philippines - Baguio City consolidated data on the effects of tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong and the incessant habagat (southwest monsoon), showing one person dead, two injured, one missing, 378 families or 1,593 individuals affected, a four-wheel vehicle totally wrecked due to rock fall, and P40 million in damage to infrastructure.

The weather disturbances that caused floodings, landslides, and rockslides in many parts of the country, forcing the evacuation of thousands of families, recording casualties, injuries, missing individuals, closures of roads, and millions in damages to infrastructure and agriculture, did not spare the city.

The missing individual was said to be a 35-year-old man in Barangay Kias who was swept away in a river amid the heavy rain on July 29, while a Grade 7 student in the city died after slipping on a road while on the way home amid the habagat on July 28.

As for the affected families, 34 of them are still seeking shelter in various barangay evacuation areas, while 128 are temporarily residing with their neighbors or relatives.

The victims are being assisted by the local government led by Mayor Benjamin, Magalong in coordination with the DSWD and other concerned agencies, providing them cash aid as well as food and non-food items.

Agricultural damage in the city yet to be reported

Data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (Baguio CDRRMC) also showed that as of 5:00 p.m. On July 31, there were 98 soil erosion, landslide, and rockfall incidents; a sinkhole subject to further validation; and 91 cases of trees that fell.

For the Baguio-bound road situation, DPWH Cordillera reported this August 7 that Kennon Road remains closed to traffic due to the risk of rockfall and soil collapse. A clearing operation is still ongoing.

Motorists can take the Marcos Highway, Baguio-Bauang Road (Naguilian), Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Road, Benguet-Nueva Viscaya Road, and Baguio-Bontoc Road if they need to go to the city.

In the Cordillera region as a whole, concerned agencies have yet to release a full report on the devastation left by the natural disasters.
